Our Story

Old River Candle Company began as a heartfelt tribute — a way for us, Tammy and Alyssa Maillet, a mother-daughter duo, to honour the memory of our cousin Shannon.

Shannon had a true gift for candle making. She crafted her own secret recipes and poured love into every candle she shared with friends and family. Though she never revealed her exact formulas, her spark — and her warmth — lit something in us that never faded.

Inspired by her creativity and spirit, we set out to create something of our own: a brand that blends artistry, nature, and wellness with deep personal meaning. After years of experimenting, testing, and learning, we developed our own unique recipes — clean, conscious, and crafted with intention. Everything we create is a reflection of Shannon’s legacy and the light she brought into the lives around her.

The name Old River is rooted in our Irish heritage. “Shannon” means old or wise river in Irish, and the River Shannon — one of the longest and most storied rivers in Ireland — symbolizes strength, wisdom, and family. Just like our candles.

Today, what began as a way to carry Shannon’s light forward has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of: a self-care brand rooted in love, connection, and intentional living. Every product we make is a little reminder to slow down, breathe deep, and take good care of yourself.

In Shannon’s memory, we proudly support mental health and addiction awareness by donating $1 from every sale to CAMH — the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Their work is vital, and we are honoured to help carry that mission forward alongside hers.
